Create a site

A core functionality of AirLogic is the ability to easily create sites around the world.

Create a site

To add a new site:

  1. Click the “Create site” button alt_text near the top right of the page.

  2. Navigate to the site. This can be done in two ways:

    1. Enter an address in the first text box. When you see something familiar appear in the drop-down menu, you can select it for the map to be zoomed to that location.

    alt_text

     1. You do not need to know the exact address of your facility. Many users navigate to a nearby city (e.g. “Boulder, CO”) and pan the map to their site from there.

    1. You can also locate it by dragging the map and zooming to its location.
  3. Name your site something specific. This is what it will be called in the Sites List.

    alt_text

  4. Draw your site using the tools available in the top center of the screen. Only one shape is necessary to create a site. Select from the following by clicking on its icon:

    • alt_text Point marker - Place exact points on the map. Use this tool for marking pinpoint locations such as a single ground sensor or pump station.
    • asf
    • alt_text Square - Click and drag a box around your site. Make sure to encapsulate the whole facility.
    • alt_text Polygon - Create a custom multi-sided shape to encapsulate your site. Click to place the first point, click in more locations to add each line, and close the shape off by clicking the first point again. Use this tool for mapping tight borders around your site to avoid overlapping neighboring facilities.
    • alt_text Drag - This tool will not draw any shapes, but lets you pause drawing to reposition the map.
    • If you make a mistake, press the “Clear Drawing” alt_text button to start over.
  5. When you have correctly completed the above steps, the “Create Site” alt_text button will stop being greyed out. Click it to finish creating your site.

Rosetta / View public data sets

Tons of data is available for a site immediately upon creating it. AirLogic pulls from numerous public datasets and displays everything available for your site.

To view Rosetta:

  1. Select a site. This can be done on either the Site Map or the Portfolio tab. You will be zoomed into a view of your site on the map. alt_text

  2. At first, no data sets are selected. You will need to choose some. Click the alt_textbutton to bring up a list of data sources. Select as many as you would like. When you are done selecting, click on the “x” in the top right corner or anywhere outside of the pop-up. alt_text

  3. Click on any colored marker in the Rosetta Timeline. (White spaces have no data for that period.) alt_text

  4. Wait a moment for imagery to populate the map. You can view other dates or species by clicking their corresponding tiles on the timeline:

    • Different types of data display differently. For example, satellite imagery is viewed as a heatmap, public sensors are colored dots on the map, and wind is a series of vectors.
    • Toggle the visibility or transparency of this layer using the slider in the key. alt_text

Export

AirLogic offers a number of ways to export your data to share with others or load into different tools.

To export data:

  1. Navigate to the Rosetta view of a site if you are not already.

  2. Select the datasets you want to be included in the export. Make sure they appear in the Rosetta timeline before you proceed to the next step. alt_text

  3. Click the “Share” alt_text button near the top right of the screen.

  4. There are three methods for data export:

    • Send a Link This creates a link that can be used to send anyone with AirLogic access directly to the view you’ve created for your site. This includes the display of any particular date and species you have selected.
    • Download Raw Data (CSV) This downloads a CSV with entries for every date and species you have selected. Columns are: dataset, metric, datetime, value, units.
    • Integrate with GIS application This creates text that can be used to view data in GIS applications such as MapBox, ESRI, QGIS, and GoogleEarth. Each link created will transfer data for one species at one timespan (day, month, year) depending on what you have selected.

Portfolio Time

Categories

The various metrics available in you AirLogic subscription are curated into relevant categories. These are easy for us to customize per customer. You may want a section for "Aerial" versus "Handheld Devices" or group them by event types such as "Dust."

Portfolio Categories

Data coverage

View data coverage. Metrics are great. But how much can I trust them? To answer this you need to know how much data coverage you have. Does this metric reflect a majority of sites or only a few? Was it calculated from a few measurements or a large number? The data coverage panel shows you this information for the selected metrics.

Loading internal data

While there is plenty of data available upon the creation of any site, the real power of AirLogic is unlocked when these public datasets are combined with your internal data. This could be data from your own ground sensors, flyovers, reports, or anything you deem relevant. We are extremely flexible with what data we can import!
